According to the Vietnam Coconut Association, the protocol on exporting fresh coconuts to the Chinese market could help the export turnover of this item reach 250 million USD next year, accounting for 25% of the total export turnover of the Vietnamese coconut industry.
Mr. Cao Ba Dang Khoa, General Secretary of the Vietnam Coconut Association, said: The Chinese market buys more than 60% of Thailand’s coconut output. The appearance of fresh Vietnamese coconut will create an interesting competition like durian today. It requires businesses to pay special attention to product quality to win customers’ trust. “Only then can we turn these memorandums of understanding into real value, bringing long-term benefits to the Vietnamese coconut industry. Right after the protocol was issued, we have made continuous efforts to connect Vietnamese businesses with Chinese partners,” said Mr. Khoa.

Specifically, on September 27, during the trade promotion program at the Guangzhou International Fruit and Vegetable Industry Exhibition (China), Ben Tre Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Betrimex) signed strategic memorandums of understanding with leading organizations and associations of fruits and coconuts in China. This is an important turning point, opening up great opportunities for Vietnamese fresh coconuts to conquer the billion-people market.
As a leading enterprise in the Vietnamese coconut industry, Ms. Tran Que Trang, General Director of Betrimex, shared: Exporting fresh coconut to China is part of Betrimex’s long-term strategy. We have proactively prepared since the protocol was still in the negotiation stage, from building standard raw material areas to researching and ensuring the extremely strict export standards of the billion-people market. The promotion and search for potential partners have also been diligently implemented by Betrimex in coordination with the Vietnam Coconut Association for over a year. Vietnamese fresh coconuts will open the door to penetrate deeper into this large market, gradually realizing the goal of bringing national agricultural products to the world.”
